Holy Week is full of traditions for many including St James Youth and Families. Last year we were amidst the covid outbreak, and we all learned how we could continue our traditions, even if those traditions were different.
This year we once again learned how to fold palm crosses on Palm Sunday at the beginning of Holy Week. We will spend the week hearing about Jesus’s journey to the cross and hold our Stations of the Cross right here on Good Friday at St. James before we celebrate his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
We invite you to take time as a family to learn more about Holy Week through video’s, activities, coloring and more as well as our in person and radio services on Friday and Sunday. On Friday we will be having our self guided stations of the cross from 1 pm – 7pm and on Easter Sunday we will be having our annual egg hunt at 9:30 am. All are welcome!
Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week. In this first story we hear about Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey while people waved palms and lay them at his feet to ride over.
Good Friday
On Good Friday we act out the bible story that tells of Jesus’s journey to the cross, known as the Stations of the Cross
Holy Saturday
On Holy Saturday we read about Jesus lying in the tomb. We wait for his resurrection in something called the Easter Vigil.
Easter Sunday
Alleluia Christ is RISEN! Christ is risen indeed. Easter Sunday is when we let all our alleluias ring in church as we celebrate Jesus’s victory over death. Many people celebrate by having egg hunts, eating sweets, and going to service. Watch this video for a quick recap of what Holy week is and download our packet for some fun Easter activities.

What’s a Vigil? Holy Saturday is sometimes called the Easter Vigil. A vigil is when you wait for something, like how Jesus asked his disciples to stay awake while he prayed. On Saturday we wait with hope for the Easter Miracle and often light candles or bonfires.
