For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,

Matthew 25:35

Youth and Families is sponsoring the 2nd of 2 events for the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury CT. On March 7th we prepared meals for 60 people and delivered them directly to the Dorothy Day Hospitality House. Those meals included sandwiches, fruit, chips, cookies, and water. On April 4th, we will be providing the meal for the day once again for 60 people (Initial prep day April 3rd ). Dorothy Day House provides food to the hungry and shelter (not currently open) to the homeless. Covid has had an impact on this program which under normal circumstances would provide a hot afternoon meal that included salad and dessert. In addition, they would have the opportunity to take a sandwich bag with them. Now instead, people come by each afternoon to pick up a bag which contains, 2 sandwiches, 1 bag of chips, 1 piece of fruit, 1 bottle of water, and 2 cookies.

St James will has the honor of preparing and putting together those bags, which will then be delivered to the Dorothy Day House.  Yes, that means 120 sandwiches and 120 cookies to make, 60 bags of chips, 60 pieces of fruit, and 60 bottles of water for each date.

Want to help? We are accepting donations to spread the cost, or you can help by, picking up food (item-specific), baking cookies, or finish assembling bags on the above Sundays after church service.
